All about Zakynthos

In the area of the city Plaza in 1992, a memorial monument in honour of the music composer Dimitris Lagios (1952 - 1991) was constructed on the initiative of the Municipality of Zakynthos, with an embedded brass relief with the figure of the artist, the work of sculptor Praxitelis Tzanoulinou (1955 - ). The whole work, which consists of two marble blocks and includes, in addition to the relief, the lyrics of Dimitris Lagios from one of his songs: "To dream from the window, to travel, to enter you to be destroyed and die, my salvation is death and your body ...". The monument was built on the idea of our compatriot professor of architecture Santi Avgoustinou, symbolizing the rebirth of Zakynthos after the disaster of '53, through the work of younger creators.  On a plaque on the side of the monument it reads: "Zakynthos to her children".
