The column of white marble, is distinguished for its harmonious proportions and simplicity of conception. On the front side at the top, it bears a relief wreath of flowers fixed with ribbons. It is followed by an engraved inscription that reads: "DEFENDERS OF THE NATIONAL BATTLES / AND LIBERATORS OF GREECE /THIS COMMEMORATION COLUMN WAS PLACED IN YOUR HONOUR / YOUR FELLOW CITIZENS OF ZAKYNTHOS / 1905 Below the inscription there is a relief of a lamp. The monument is completed by the crown, which represents a torch with its flame lit, while it rests on a calyx, surrounded by lion's heads. It is noted that the monument bears the marks of bullet shells, which may have been fired during the Italian-German occupation.
