The Helmis Museum of Natural History (M.H.F.I.) was inaugurated on 10 August 2000 by Panagiotis Helmis and is housed in Agia Marina, Zakynthos. Its collections include sections of flora and fauna of Zakynthian nature. The operation of the Museum aims to promote Zakynthian nature in Greece and internationally. With its exhibits, and with its special environmental education room, the Museum helps both the specialist and the general public, who are interested in the geology, fauna and flora and other environmental peculiarities of the Ionian Sea islands. In addition, the aim is to raise awareness of the community on issues of natural and cultural heritage protection and sustainable development. _x000D_ The collection includes: ecosystems and animals of the 5 continents with real specimens and specific information on the exposed animal species, fossils, 3000 marine organisms - sponges, corals, ropefish, starfish, shells, decapod crustaceans, sharks, strange fish, snails, sea turtle: carreta - carreta.
