All about Zakynthos

The holy church of the Theotokos Evangelistria belonged from 1558 to the Avouris family.

The first priest, Peter Avouris, with a covenant he drew up in 1722, donated the church to a brotherhood.

In this temple were saved icons of the life of the Theotokos by Nikolaos Koutouzis and icons of the prophets by Nikolaos Kantounis who served as a pastor of the church.

The church of Evangelistria was burnt down in 1953.
