Moutzan mansion -
History Zante Town

The mansion of the Moutzan family (Moutsa) was until the earthquake of 1953 the last house of the Broad Street (Plateia Rouga) in Tsaruhareika.

The Moujans who trace their origins to Spain were written in the Zakynthian Gold Book in 1633.

The most important offspring of the family were: the lawyer Francis Moutzan (1769-1851), prefect of Zakynthos during the period of British protection (1818-1823).

His daughter, Elizabeth Moutzian-Martinegou (1801-1832) was one of the first Greek women writers, famous for her autobiography.

And his grandson, the poet Elisavetios Martinegos (1832-1885).
