The childless Dionysios Martinegos - Gaetas left in his will his mansion built of carved sandstone and his property in order to establish

"a house of decent shelter", in which to feed and support people of the bourgeoisie, who due to unfortunate circumstances were unable to support themselves.

The foundation was destroyed by the British bombing on 18 August 1944.
