Komoutou Mansion - Saint Markos Square

Gama-shaped mansion in the canton of Komoutos (today's Mantzarou Street). The entrance occupied the entire height of the ground floor and the mezzanine where the office of the Conde was located.

The first floor included the reception rooms, the ballroom, the living rooms, the "old" room (apparently a room with portraits of the family's ancestors) and the dining room.

On the second floor there were five bedrooms.

The Byzantine family of Komoutos fled to Crete after the fall of Constantinople, from there to Methoni and finally in 1500 to Zakynthos.

Dimitrios Komoutos, born in 1540, took part in the Naval Battle of Nafpaktos as a sergeant major and was distinguished for his bravery.

Finally, Prince Antonios Komoutos received the degree of Doctor of Law in 1767 and was elected president of the Ionian Senate in 1804.
