All about Zakynthos

The Hospital "Evangelismos" was founded according to Leonidas Zois on the order of the providence of the Sea Corner

for the care of poor patients.

The Orfanotrfeion was founded in the same place in 1678 as an annex to the existing Hospital.

The two institutions were rebuilt in 1817.

In 1897, Queen Olga founded the surgical annex "Saint Dionysios" next to the Hospital.

In 1899, due to the lack of funds for the operation of the institutions, the state took over the operation of the salt marshes that belonged to them for a fee of 3,200 drachmas per year.

Later by State Law in place of the Hospital

the Karabinio Primary School was built and the state took over the Karabinis bequest.
