History Zante Town Zante Town

The mansion of the Gaeta family, which resembled a fortress, was the oldest and the largest in Repara.

After the death of the president of the Ionian Senate, Demetrios Foskardis, his heir was appointed his nephew, Demetrios Gaetas,

whose family has since carried the double family name Gaeta - Foscardi.

The Gaeta family came to Zakynthos during the Crusades and their offspring served in Venice as members of the military corps.

In the 19th century the most important member of the Gaeta family was the lawyer Antonios Gaeta, who served as a prosecutor.

After the Union of the Ionian Islands with Greece, he ran the newspaper Omonia, which was harshly critical of the Lombard party, for which he was murdered by unknown persons.
