Zante Town
The soap factory of the Filioti brothers was located in Rougas Square opposite the Santrini mansion.
The Zakynthian craft of soapmaking flourished on the island since the 11th century. The soap produced supplied the markets of Athens, Piraeus, Patras, Pyrgos and many other cities.
The soapmakers made two kinds of soaps: the white one from olive oil and the green one from kernel oil.
More expensive was the white, which was the purest. He did for almost all uses.
Apart from laundry, it was also used for washing the body, shampooing, shaving and was so pure that soap makers, when they wanted to advertise it, put it in their mouths.
