All about Zakynthos

The mansion of the poet Elisavetios Martinegos in Rougas Square was destroyed in the earthquake of 1953.

The poet's mother, the playwright Elizabeth Moujan Martinegou, lived in this house after her marriage,

and it was in this house that she breathed her last, giving birth to her son.

Among the important works lost in the earthquake fire was the portrait of the hero of the Cretan war Prokopios Martinengos

and Elizabeth's lentika.
