All about Zakynthos

The residence of the benefactor of Zakynthos Ioannis Damiris in Strata Marina was completely destroyed in the earthquake of 1953.

In his will, Ioannis Damiris left three million drachmas for the construction of the new church of St. Dionysios and a Vocational School for needy students, he gave his mansion in Strata Marina (today's Lombard Street) of Zakynthos town to the "organized associations" of the island, and finally, he arranged a bequest to the University of Athens to give a scholarship every year in memory of his son Christodoulos.
