Bust of Colonel Andreas Mouzakis (1928 – 1974) in Ano Gerakario

In the settlement of "Alonia", near his father's house where he was born, there is a bronze bust of colonel Andreas Mouzakis (1928 - 1974), who died fighting during the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, defending the independence of the island. At the base of the bust and below the depiction of a composition of laurel branches, there is the inscription: Colonel (PZ) Andreas Mouzakis / Born 1.2.1928 / In Ano Gerakari of Zakynthos / The first to fall heroically fighting / for the freedom of Cyprus / in the town of Evagoras, Famagusta / during the Turkish invasion / on 20.7.1974 On the right side of the base there is the note. On the left side the note. The bust is the work (1998) of the sculptor Christakis Valera (1960 - ). An effigy of the same work has also been placed in the camp of the K.E.T.H., in Patras, where, since 1974, it bears the name of the murdered hero. It is noted that in order to construct the bust, the Federation of Cypriot Associations of Greece and in particular the Vice Presidency of Western Greece actively contributed to the construction of the bust.
