Dionysioa Romas the Filikos

Dionysios Romas (1771- 1857) was the soul of the greek secter Society of Filiki Etaireia in Zakynthos and the struggling Greece. Through his correspondence and his actions towards the governments and courts of Europe he managed to have its justice recognized. By appropriate manipulations he secured the support of England and Russia. He had met with Rigas Feraios and became a preacher of his ideas. At the Assembly of Troizina, Rigas Palamidis proposed him as Governor of Greece. The proposal was not accepted and Kapodistrias was elected. By a resolution of the National Assembly he was declared a great citizen and benefactor of Greece together with the other two members of the Committee of the Filiki Etaireia in Zakynthos, Panagiotis Stefanou and Konstantinos Dragonas, on 5 May 1829. After the liberation he became an advisor to the state and was subsequently accused with Kolokotronis and Plapoutas during the Regency of a crime of sedition, he was convicted, but after a review of the trial he was reinstated.
